Reviewing a Dealer Tractor Stock Mix Using Enquiry Evidence

Published 14 September 2026 · Massey Ferguson Dealers

The right stock mix depends on the enquiries a dealer can substantiate and the support it can organise. A frequently mentioned model is not automatically a confirmed buying requirement. Separate evidence of interest from evidence that a customer is ready to purchase a particular configuration.

Group enquiries by the work required

Start with farm tasks, customer type, quantity and destination. Then record the models or configurations discussed. This prevents a broad request for a tractor from being counted as firm demand for whichever model appeared in the first reply.

Keep unsuccessful or deferred enquiries in the review with their stated reasons. They may reveal a gap in the offered package, unclear support arrangements or an unresolved specification rather than a lack of demand.

Assess the complete package

  • Which drive configurations have confirmed interest?
  • Which implements are repeatedly requested with those tractors?
  • Which accessories are essential to the discussed jobs?
  • What parts identification and service information will buyers need?
  • Which items can be supplied to order rather than held without clear demand?

Use current written quotations for commercial planning. Historical prices or freight from an unrelated shipment should not be treated as the cost of a new stock order.

Review after each selling period

Compare the enquiry record with actual completed sales and the equipment delivered. Note where a requested model changed after the customer’s tasks were clarified. This creates a more useful demand history than a count of website clicks or brochure requests.

Before placing a stock order, confirm each specification, the available support route and the agreed supply terms. This guide provides an operational review method; it does not predict sales, recommend an investment amount or establish a dealer appointment. The decision should remain tied to the dealer’s own verified demand and current commitments.
